Had I Not Seen the Sun

—Emily Dickinson

Had I not seen the sun,

I could have borne the shade.

But light a newer wilderness,

My wilderness has made.

But you didn't.

Remember the day I borrowed your brand new car and dented it?

I thought you'd kill me

But you didn't.

And remember the time I dragged you to the beach

And you said it would rain, and it did?

I thought you'd say, "I told you so."

But you didn't.

Do you remember the time I flirted with all the guys

To make you jealous, and you were?

I thought you'd leave,

But you didn't.

Do you remember the time I spilled strawberry pie all over your car rug?

I thought you'd hit me, but you didn't.

And remember the time I forgot to tell you the dance was formal

And you showed up in jeans?

I thought you'd drop me, but you didn't.

Yes, there were lots of things you didn't do.

But you put up with me, and loved me, and protected me.

There were lots of things I wanted to make up to you when you returned from Vietnam.

But you didn't.

---- Emily Dickinson

Beacause i could not stop for Death,

He kindly stopped for me;

The carriage held but just ourselves

And Immortality.

We slowly drove, he knew no haste,

And i had put away

My labor, and my leisure too,

For his civility.

We passed the school where children played,

Their lessons scarcely done;

We passed the field of gazing grain,

We passed the setting sun.

We paused before a house that seemed

A swelling of the ground;

The roof was scarcely visible,

The cornice but a mound.

Since then 't is centuries;but each

Feels shorter than the day

I first surmised the horses' heads

Were toward eternity.

I like for you to be still我喜欢你是寂静的

(Pablo Neruda)
I like for you to be stillit is as though you were absent,
and you hear me from far awayand you voice does not touch you.
It seems as though your eyes had flown away
and it seems that a kiss had sealed your mouth.
As all things are filled with my soul
you emerge from the things, filled my soul.
You are like my soul, a butterfly of dream,
and you are like the word Melancholy.
I like for you to be stilland you seem far away.
It sounds as though you were lamenting, a butterfly cooinglike a dove.
And you hear me from far away and my voice does not touch you :
Let me come to be still in your silence.
And let me talk to you with your silence
that is brightas a lamp, simple as a ring.
You are like the night, with it's stillness and constellations.
Your silence is that of a star, as remore and candid.
I like for you to be stillit is as though you were absent,
distant anf fullof sorrow as though you had died.
One word then,one smile,is enough.
And I am happy, happy that it's not true.

Seven times have I despised my soul:
   ------Kahlil Gibran,

The first time when I saw her being meek that she might attain height.
The second time when I saw her limping before the crippled.
The third time when she was given to choose between the hard and the easy, and she chose the easy.
The fourth time when she committed a wrong, and comforted herself that others also commit wrong.
The fifth time when she forbore for weakness, and attributed her patience to strength.
The sixth time when she despised the ugliness of a face, and knew not that it was one of her own masks.
And the seventh time when she sang a song of praise, and deemed it a virtue.

I asked nothingonly stood at the edge of the wood behind the tree.

Languor was still upon the eyes of the dawnand the dew in the air.
The lazy smell of the damp grass hung in the thin mist above the earth.
Under the banyan tree you were milking the cow with your handstender and fresh as butter.
  And I was standing still.
I did not come near you.
The sky woke with the sound of the gong at the temple.
The dust was raised in the road from the hoofs of the driven cattle.
With the gurgling pitchers at their hipswomen came from the river.
Your bracelets were jinglingand foam brimming over the jar.
The morning wore on and I did not come near you.

The Road Not Taken

------(Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrown.

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should even come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I---

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference

You smiled and talked to me of nothing and I felt that for this I had been waiting long
